If you have off and on moods, or you feel that when you are experiencing an emotion, you actually are going to extremes, then you might have the Bipolar Disorder. The Signs and symptoms of mania would be quite different from that of the bipolar depression or that of the mixed episodes.
The different phases of the disease is listed as –
- Bipolar I Disorder : mania or a mixed episode
- Bipolar II Disorder : hypomania & depression
- Cyclothymia : hypomania & mild depression
Causes Of Bipolar Disorder
When it comes to the causes of bipolar disorders, you can’t really say that there is one single factor that is contributing to the concern. There could be many. Some people get that as they have it in the family and are genetically passed on to them. Studies have reveled that some changes, which are physical in nature, are the cause of the bipolar disorder. There are external facts that trigger the problem like – stress, substance abuse, medication, and changes in the season, loss of sleep etc.
Treatment Of Bipolar Disorder
The treatment of bipolar disorder is possible but then it is not short term. You can’t take a medication course for five days and expect to be cured. Therapies, changing the life style and other like are required over and above medication to cure this problem. An experienced psychiatrist could be very instrumental to walk you out of the problem.
There is a lot of self-help that is available for this disease. You could educate yourself; ensure that you are not exposed to situations that can lead to excessive stress, ask for help, healthy choices could be a way out and most of it keeping a check on your moods would be really helpful to monitor your bipolar disorder.
