Hypertension is generally referred to syndromes of High blood pressure. It is a chronic disorder in which pressure of blood in the arteries of heart is very high. It is a very common ailment with middle aged and elderly people; nowadays the young generation is also suffering from this disease due to modern lifestyle, stress in work, etc.

A normal blood pressure reading is always 120/80 whereas in a person suffering from hypertension it elevates to 140/90. High blood pressure puts the heart to work harder to circulate the blood this causes other parts of the body to get damaged for example kidney, eyes, the brain, coronary arteries,etc. It is the main cause of stroke.

The origin of primary symptoms of hypertension is not known specifically but lifestyle is the main factor associated with it. The treatment is mainly stress management, changes in food habits, physical work out, and of course medication. Secondary hypertension is a result of side effect of some other disease such as kidney failure, damage to the endocrine system, congestive heart, and liver failure.

Hypertension is a silent killer because the person who is suffering from hypertension may not know anything about it until something serious happens, but then it will be too late; it is therefore the main cause of death in today’s world. The only way is a regular blood pressure check up to evade this disease partially. Avoiding intake of nicotine, tobaccos, etc are also advised.

Symptoms Of Hypertension

The person suffering from it may complain of regular dizziness or vertigo, feeling of instability, drowsiness, nausea and giddiness. Palpitation is a very common symptom of hypertension. They even suffer from insomnia that is they cannot able to sleep well at night. They may feel an uncomfortable respiratory sensation which is also called dyspnoea in medical terms. Another most popular symptom of hypertension is severe headache. Nocturia is also common symptom of hypertension among the patients that is a strong need to urinate every now and then especially at night. Ringing and buzzing in the ears are other possible symptoms of hypertension.

Causes of Hypertension

Though no clear cut cause of hypertension is yet discovered but researchers have found that it runs in a family. Still no specific cause is detected but some common factors have been short listed such as salt sensitivity, this happens to be one of the foremost cause of hypertension, smoking or drinking causes hypertension, Diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical exercise, being overweight or suffering from obesity, ageing, deficiency of vitamin D, high stressful life, insufficient intake of important minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium, over-the-counter medicines like birth control pills, chronic adrenal and thyroid problems

Main objective of the treatment of hypertension is to bring down the blood near to the normal level 120/80 special care must be taken for patients suffering from diabetes and chronic kidney diseases. If hypertension can be treated then stroke, heart attack etc. can also be evaded. Several kinds of drugs are also prescribed by doctors to cure this disease like diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARB drugs etc. this disease can also be prevented by maintaining a good lifestyle proper diet and physical activities.
