Researchers have done detailed studies to find out the chances of survival after the surgery. They have concluded after scrutinizing 728 medical records of women suffering from breast cancer whose cancer was discovered at a matured stage. In order to eliminate the cancer forty percent of the women underwent a surgery to remove the tumor.

The result was the mean continued existence was approximately 31 months. Women that did not undergo surgery survived for only 14 months. If you examine the results you will see that 4.5% of the women that underwent the surgery were living five years post the surgery but 13.1% women did not as they did not get the tumor operated.

Ruiterkamp says that the team of researchers had considered all the factors like age of the women, months of treatment, spread of the disease and so on. This conclusion was announced in the combined meeting of the European Cancer Organization and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Women Diagnosed At Matured Stages

The study concludes that 10% of the women that had breast cancer were diagnosed at a later stage after the deadly disease was spread in the various parts of the body according to Ruiterkamp. If the conclusions are confirmed this could lead to innovative and ground breaking results.

ESMO President Jose Baselga, MD, chairman of the medicinal oncology service at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain, clearly states that numerous studies are throwing light on the fact that surgery is one of the best means to increase the life-span of the breast cancer patients as it attacks the roots of the disease. It would reduce the multiplying of the cancerous cells in the body as well. The immune system of the patient may be energized by surgery which may result in destroying the cancer cells.

Yael Levy states that getting chronic nightmares when she was in elementary schools, while staying in Israel. The holocaust survivor states that all her dreams were filled with death and sufferings. In a nightmare that appeared recurrently, Levy was trapped facing death and another nightmare she was left to drown in deep water. Nightmare left her desperately fatigue and jittery.

She woke up terrified always and was scared for going to sleep. Levy stated that the horrific feelings were difficult to get rid of. She remained scared throughout the following day.

Bad Dream or Chronic Nightmare?

There is nothing strange about getting seldom nightmares which is stated by the experts in sleep as the bad dream which makes the sleeper to get up from sleep. But around eight percent of the populations among adults are suffering from chronic nightmares, which make them to wake up during sleep which takes place minimum once in a week.

In some cases, the nightmare could be very frequent which makes sleeping totally impossible for the people and makes them set stages for emotional as well fatigue related issues like depression, anxiety and other mental illusions. She did not think that there was no help for this disease.

Many people do get nightmares and I suffered from mine. I never knew that there were treatments for these. But this is a common myth. Many people consider that nightmares cannot be treated. But as Shelby Harris, who is an expert in behavioral sleep medical programs, has stated that Nightmare can be treated effectively.

Treatment for Chronic Nightmares

One of the best choices for treatment is psychodynamic therapy, where patients have to check with a psychotherapist regularly to explain about the nightmares and think about the emotional problems behind them.

Another choice is to take a drug called prazosin, which is suggested for people with high blood pressure, research has proved that the taking of these drugs before sleep could be effective for treating nightmares caused due to post traumatic disorders.

But Levy did not find any relief from psychotherapy or drugs but using certain simple methods of behavioral training, which she was taught by Harris after getting treatment related to insomnia and not nightmares.

It has been recently found out that a common drug which is used cure high levels of blood pressure may also be used in treating the lethal disease of multiple sclerosis.

A recent study throws light on the fact that a common and an economical drug used for optimizing high blood pressure called lisinopril has helped tremendously and been fruitful in blocking the growth of multiple sclerosis of the mice that are subjects in the laboratory. The mice were made to consume the drug as they had matured and all the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. This helped in transforming their paralysis without harming their immunity of the body.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a painful and a deadly disease that has a detrimental effect on the body’s resistant system. This results in the malfunctioning of the immune system of the body. This disease may ultimately lead to paralysis or death of the patient. One of the biggest drawbacks is that the disease is complex and curing it means that the body’s immune system will be affected adversely.

Blood Pressure Drug – Lisinopril

According to researcher Lawrence Steinman, MD, Stanford University, states that the ailment of multiple sclerosis and high levels of blood pressure both include inflammatory process that may be advantageous if cured by the drug – lisinopril. If the research concludes the same then the medicinal value of the drug will surely be a great and an economical way of curing the nasty ailment.

This research was mentioned in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. It was thoroughly researched and the after effects of the drug that was consumed by the mice led to the manifestation and growth of brain lesions that is common in people suffering from MS after they are treated with chemical doses.

The Experiment

The team of researchers gave the mice equal portions of the drug – lisinopril that is given to control high levels of blood pressure prior and after the injection causing the disease.

The conclusion was the mice that had consumed the dose before the injection had no shown no signs of paralysis that is commonly linked to MS. The mice that were given the drug after the injection clearly displayed the signs of re-occurrence of paralysis.

The researchers were surprised to find that the cure with the drug had effectively diminished few of the soreness markers that are generally found during the occurrence of MS which affects the overall function of the immune system.

This research also triggered the fact that the drug manifested the creation of a significant number of immune cells that are termed as regulatory T cells that safeguard against any immune ailment.

According to Steinman this is bound to be a new and a challenging avenue for research which may result in path breaking achievements in treating MS.

He states that they were interesting and fascinating facts that have surfaced after this experiment or else it would have been another research paper that would told people what all could have been done in mice.
