French and British Researchers have discovered 3 genes that cause the Alzheimer’s disease that can most probably with several cases of mutations. As per the online report given by the scientists in Nature Genetics, the finding of these 3 important genes named as CR1, PICALM and CLU can be a good treatment for the Alzheimer’s disease.
These genes were discovered by making a comparison of 1000s of DNA samples from Americans and Europeans, both who were infected with the Alzheimer’s disease and people without it. There are certain other genes which are also related with the cause of Alzheimer’s disease especially the APOE4 gene version is found to be major risk factor that can cause Alzheimer’s disease, and further many gene discoveries can happen soon, as stated by the researchers.
For example, during the month of June 2008, another crew of researchers stated that a gene named TOMM40 can be a strong forecaster of the Alzheimer disease. Julie Williams, PhD, is a lecturer and export in neuropsychological genetics who works at Cardiff University in United Kingdom. She was one of the scientists in the crew which discovered the 3 new genes related to the Alzheimer’s disease.
The genes CLU, CR1 and APOE have major role in safe guarding the brain from impairment. Probably, the alternation seen in these genes can damage their protective behavior and can even change them to killer genes. Around sixteen thousand individuals were studied for this research in order to discover these new gene variants. These genes are the first news ones to be linked with generic form of Alzheimer’s disease since its discovery in 1993.
The trust for Alzheimer’s Research stated that is a leap ahead for research in dementia. Michal Owen, the member of Medical Research Council stated that this discovery is a big milestone towards achieving an early cure of the Alzheimer’s disease. Julie Williams one of the lead authors of this research paper, states on the website named Nature Genetics where it was published that these newly invented genes would become a portion of the a wide genetic exam to find out the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, but they will not individually contribute a complete gene test on their own. Owen who is director at MRC center in Cardiff University handling for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics has also stated the same.
Earlier only 1 type of gene, APOE4, was liked with the Alzheimer’s disease. This analysis has disclosed 2 more genes, PICALM and CIU to be linked with the Alzheimer’s disease. This is anticipated to present researches much more percipient direction for developing new method of treatments for the disease. The crew of researchers also shared their research data with another study by French researchers, which finally exposed the obliging manifest for a 3rd gene linked with Alzheimer’s disease termed as CR1.
The lead author of the research paper and principal scientific advisor for the Alzheimer’s research trust and professor at Cardiff University, Julie Williams, has reported that this research has changed the understanding of the scientists about the common causes behind the Alzheimer’s disease and has given them leads for finding new optimal treatment techniques and possible cures for this dementia. The research paper was published in the Nature Genetics website. Owen has also stated that a bigger study and research is planned to discover more Alzheimer’s gene targets.
