Caregiver burn outs are states of emotional, mental and physical exhaustions which can be followed by attitude variation – from caring and positive attitude to unconcerned and negative attitudes. Burnouts can happen while caregivers do not get help required by them or if they try doing more than their capacity, either commercially or physically.

Caregivers who are blown out could feel stress, fatigue, depression and anxiety. Many of the caregiver also experience guilt when they ass time alone rather than spending time with elderly beloved people or ill people.

Symptoms Regarding Caregiver Burnouts

The evidences for caregiver burnouts are exactly similar to depression and stress symptoms. It includes the below symptoms,

  • Detachment from family members and friends.
  • Deprivation of Interest and Enthusiasm in activities enjoyed previously.
  • Feeling irritated, helpless and hopeless.
  • Changes in weight and appetite.
  • Changes in patterns of sleeping.
  • Getting ill frequently.
  • Feeling to hurt others and themselves.
  • Exhaustion both physically and emotionally.
  • Pettishness.

Reasons for Caregiver Burnout

The requirements for their mind, emotions and body could be overpowering which can cause hopelessness and fatigue. This causes them to burnout completely. Some other factors are,

Role Mix-Up – Many individuals are not clear when to drive into caregiver role. It could be hard for an individual to realize them as a friend, child, and lover and also as a caregiver parallel.

Impossible Anticipations

Most of the caregivers await their participation to have a good effect on the patients’ happiness and health. This could be impossible for certain patients who might suffer from progressive diseases like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s.

  • No control – Most of the caregivers do not have control on them and get frustrated due to resources, skills and lack of enough money to manage and plan for caring their beloved ones.
  • Excessive Needs – Certain caregivers put excessive responsibilities on themselves and find it hard to satisfy all of them.
  • Some other factors cause them not to recognize that they are having burnout and they come to a situation when they are not able to operate effectively, which can make them get sick.

There are some important techniques which can help in avoiding caregiver burnouts,

  1. Finding a reliable person like a colleague, neighbor or friend who can be trusted in order to express their frustrations and feelings.
  2. Also setting goals which are realistic, so that they can be achieved and also get help from people in regard to care giving.
  3. Being realistic with the disease of the beloved ones and in case of progressive diseases trying to control ourselves on our feeling and emotions.
  4. Though care giving is important, they should first take care of themselves and their health. They should be emotionally, physically and psychologically fit for care giving. So, they must eat healthy food, have some time for relaxation and do their job well.
