Many people may find discussions about reproductive health to be very disturbing or rather a taboo topic. However, it is very important for every people to know the things that are happening in their bodies. This will help people to get medications if needed for any issue. With this, it is just worth discussing these issues such as yeast infection.

What is Yeast Infection?

Yeast infection, also known as Candidiasis, is a problem a number of females have although this may also occur among males. This is a type of infection caused by fungi of any kind under the family of Candida species. This problem may be as simple as a superficial infection or something that can threaten the lives of the patients.

Symptoms of Yeast Infections

Yeast-InfectionThere are many symptoms of yeast infections that can be found among women. One of the most common symptoms of yeast infections is itching and burning sensation if the infection is concentrated on the vulva, the term given for the external female genitalia. Aside from this, there could be some feelings of soreness and irritation found on the affected area. Whitish discharge that usually has a curd-like feature are also among the symptoms of yeast infections found in women.

For males, the most symptoms of yeast infections found are the itchy sores near the phallus’ head, itching and also burning sensations. The same white discharge can also occur in males but it is not prevalent or rather uncommon for them.

Causes of Yeast Infections

The main causes of yeast infections are the Candida yeasts that are usually found in a person’s body. However, you may be asking why only a number of people are affected by Candidiasis. The reason for this is that the patient’s immune system is not that strong to control its growth.

Once these causes of yeast infections were cultured in the body, males can get yeast infection once they had a sexual intercourse with the patient who may have it.

Treatment for Yeast Infection

Since Candida yeast is a type of fungi residing in the body, the main treatment for yeast infection recommended by physicians are the antifungal medications. You may have heard of these antifungal medications being mentioned as treatment for other fungi-caused problems like dandruff and athlete’s foot.

You will need to be checked by the physician and ask for the best treatment for yeast infection. One of the most recommended in the market is Diflucan, an oral medication, because of its effectivity. While there are other over the counter medications, it is still better to ask the physician for the right treatment for yeast infection and of course the proper dosing that you should get.

The symptoms for Candidiasis may also be the same with other genital problems. So rather than keeping the topic a taboo, better have regular checkup with your physician in order to know whether you have yeast infection and have it treatment immediately before it becomes a bigger problem for you and your health.
