New study on treatment of aortic aneurysm. Less encroaching endovascular fixing of the aortic aneurysms has positive benefits for patients and does not carry any fatal risk and can increase the patients’ life by 2 years. Aortic aneurysm is the life-threatening ballooning of the central artery of the body which could be fatal even if it is not discovered at the right time and cured.

Aortic aneurysm is the fifteenth major cause for death in United States of America. But the processes of repairing aortic aneurysms are quit risky. In fact, the surgical process for aortic aneurysm carries the biggest amount of death risk for an individual.

Standard Surgery

The standard technique for fixing aortic aneurysm is open surgery. But in last 10 years, there are number of methods and tools which were invented by surgeons for repairing aortic aneurysms by using techniques that are less encroaching which require some minute incisions in groin. The studies initially stated that though this technique for fixing aortic aneurysm using endovascular tissue repair has reduced the complications involved with open surgery and is less risky compared to it, patients will usually require another surgery or could die most likely.

The medical center head from Minneapolis, Mr. Frank A. Lederle, MD along with his team members has stated a few points from the initial results of the long term research which they conducted for comparing the open surgery with endovascular tissue repair method for aortic aneurysms. The research was done for 881 veterans who were for fit for both categories of medical procedures for fixing aortic aneurysms. One half of the patients received treatment through endovascular repair and other half of patients had their treatment through open surgery methods.

Benefits of Endovascular Tissue Repair

The good information from the study is that there were no much deaths in the group which underwent endovascular tissue repair treatment for heart surgeries. When compared to men who took open surgery methods, the people who got treatment through endovascular repair enjoyed the following benefits.

Spent less time for treatment while undergoing endovascular treatment procedure.

Did not suffer much blood loss unlike surgical method and did not need any blood transfusions.

Did not need much mechanical ventilation.

Had to spend very less number of days in hospital than surgical procedure.

Had to spend 3 fewer days in Intensive care unit of hospital.

There were some negative aspects like exposition to more radiations since treatment was done using fluoroscopy for prolonged amount of time and they also got exposed to contrast agents that could damage kidneys. It is earlier to say that endovascular tissue is better as the study would be complete only after another 3 years. It is not possible to predict which method is best without long-term data from patients.

Taking Statin Pills can reduce blood pressure as per new study. There is another important advantage of taking statins. As per a new study the drugs which help in reducing cholesterol have also been effective for reducing the blood pressure of patients. The research members have stated that it is the very first time that such a study has proven the results of positive effects of statins in human body apart from reducing cholesterol.

The research members evaluated nine hundred and seventy three patients (both men and women) from the region of southern California. The candidates did not have any heart problems or diabetes. The candidates were treated with pravachol, placebo or zocor each day for 6 months continuously.

Blood Pressure and Relation With Statins:

Patients, who took either any of the statin pills, had a small but notable decrease in their blood pressure when they were compared with another group of individuals who were given placebo drugs. The statins were able to reduce both diastolic and systolic blood pressure among the patients and this effect can extend to other patients who suffer from pre-hypertension, people with usual blood pressures and for people who do not take medications for reducing blood pressure. The research and doctor Beatrice Golomb, MD, Phd has stated in the news release about the benefits of taking statins over the blood pressure when compared to people who don’t take such drugs.

Golomb is currently working for California University and he belongs to San Diego medical school. The statins are the best selling drugs which are usually prescribed by doctors for patients with heavy cholesterol in their body. But the physicians have stated that the benefit of health which is got from statin has been more increased as they have some effect on accumulation of plaque in the blood vessels. The blood pressure could be reduced which is because of the reduction of plaque which causes free movement of blood in patients thereby reducing their blood pressure.

Benefits of Low Blood Pressure

The reduction in blood pressure can be associated with decrease in risk for stroke and other diseases related to heart. The authors of the study are suspecting that the use of statins could be helpful in decreasing the risk of stroke and heart related problems among patients who are suffering from such diseases.

The decrease of blood pressure through use of Statins which also help in reducing the cholesterol contents among the patients is like a double edged sword and can be helpful in reducing the problems related to heart like stroke and other cardiovascular diseases that can arise due to high pressure in blood. Golomb has asked his team members to research further with various statin types that can be more powerful and could produce various effects and also with various doses and treatment for longer time frame in order to observe the benefits of this amazing drug further and to provider an effective treatment strategy for reducing blood pressure through statins. The research paper was published in Internal Medicine archive journal.

Hypertension is generally referred to syndromes of High blood pressure. It is a chronic disorder in which pressure of blood in the arteries of heart is very high. It is a very common ailment with middle aged and elderly people; nowadays the young generation is also suffering from this disease due to modern lifestyle, stress in work, etc.

A normal blood pressure reading is always 120/80 whereas in a person suffering from hypertension it elevates to 140/90. High blood pressure puts the heart to work harder to circulate the blood this causes other parts of the body to get damaged for example kidney, eyes, the brain, coronary arteries, etc. It is the main cause of stroke.

Hypertension can be classified into two categories : essential hypertension and secondary hypertension. The origin of primary symptoms of hypertension is not known specifically but lifestyle is the main factor associated with it. The treatment is mainly stress management, changes in food habits, physical work out, and of course medication. Secondary hypertension is a result of side effect of some other disease such as kidney failure, damage to the endocrine system, congestive heart, and liver failure.

Hypertension is a silent killer because the person who is suffering from hypertension may not know anything about it until something serious happens, but then it will be too late; it is therefore the main cause of death in today’s world. The only way is a regular blood pressure check up to evade this disease partially. Avoiding intake of nicotine, tobaccos, etc are also advised.

Symptoms Of Hypertension

The person suffering from it may complain of regular dizziness or vertigo, feeling of instability, drowsiness, nausea and giddiness. Palpitation is a very common symptom of hypertension. They even suffer from insomnia that is they cannot able to sleep well at night. They may feel an uncomfortable respiratory sensation which is also called dyspnoea in medical terms. Another most popular symptom of hypertension is severe headache. Nocturia is also common symptom of hypertension among the patients that is a strong need to urinate every now and then especially at night. Ringing and buzzing in the ears are other possible symptoms of hypertension.

Causes of Hypertension

Though no clear cut cause of hypertension is yet discovered but researchers have found that it runs in a family. Still no specific cause is detected but some common factors have been short listed such as salt sensitivity, this happens to be one of the foremost cause of hypertension, smoking or drinking causes hypertension, Diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical exercise, being overweight or suffering from obesity, ageing, deficiency of vitamin D, high stressful life, insufficient intake of important minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium, over-the-counter medicines like birth control pills, chronic adrenal and thyroid problems

Main objective of the treatment of hypertension is to bring down the blood near to the normal level 120/80 special care must be taken for patients suffering from diabetes and chronic kidney diseases. If hypertension can be treated then stroke, heart attack etc. can also be evaded. Several kinds of drugs are also prescribed by doctors to cure this disease like diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARB drugs etc. this disease can also be prevented by maintaining a good lifestyle proper diet and physical activities.
