Nightmare Therapy For Curing Chronic Nightmares

Yael Levy states that getting chronic nightmares when she was in elementary schools, while staying in Israel. The holocaust survivor states that all her dreams were filled with death and sufferings. In a nightmare that appeared recurrently, Levy was trapped facing death and another nightmare she was left to drown in deep water. Nightmare left her desperately fatigue and jittery.
She woke up terrified always and was scared for going to sleep. Levy stated that the horrific feelings were difficult to get rid of. She remained scared throughout the following day.
Bad Dream or Chronic Nightmare?
There is nothing strange about getting seldom nightmares which is stated by the experts in sleep as the bad dream which makes the sleeper to get up from sleep. But around eight percent of the populations among adults are suffering from chronic nightmares, which make them to wake up during sleep which takes place minimum once in a week.
In some cases, the nightmare could be very frequent which makes sleeping totally impossible for the people and makes them set stages for emotional as well fatigue related issues like depression, anxiety and other mental illusions. Nightmares could vary from separate contents to anything. It could be caused due to sadness, fear, shame, anger or some negative feeling. They usually occur at the sleep which takes at the second part of the night. It is more commonly found among adolescents and children, they might even strike adults.
In most situations, nightmares are caused due to psychological stress like trauma and stress related disorders, anxiety disorders which attacks the individuals who have got exposure to violent attacks, combat, natural disaster, accidents or any horrific ordeals. Other reasons for chronic nightmare might include abuse from alcohol, use of other drugs like antidepressant, and disordered breathing disedease like sleep apnea.
Beset Due to Nightmares
Nightmares can be caused to any women and Levy whose age is 29 and lives in New York along with her hubby and son who is four months old, states that she has come across several years of disturbed sleep and continuous anxiety due to chronic nightmares. She did not think that there was no help for this disease.
Many people do get nightmares and I suffered from mine. I never knew that there were treatments for these. But this is a common myth. Many people consider that nightmares cannot be treated. But as Shelby Harris, who is an expert in behavioral sleep medical programs, has stated that Nightmare can be treated effectively.
Treatment for Chronic Nightmares
One of the best choices for treatment is psychodynamic therapy, where patients have to check with a psychotherapist regularly to explain about the nightmares and think about the emotional problems behind them.
Another choice is to take a drug called prazosin, which is suggested for people with high blood pressure, research has proved that the taking of these drugs before sleep could be effective for treating nightmares caused due to post traumatic disorders.
But Levy did not find any relief from psychotherapy or drugs but using certain simple methods of behavioral training, which she was taught by Harris after getting treatment related to insomnia and not nightmares.






The team of researchers gave the mice equal portions of the drug – lisinopril that is given to control high levels of blood pressure prior and after the injection causing the disease.
